There are three main causes that are clearly related with damp and namely they are rising damp, penetrating damp and condensation.
Rising Damp – the water in the ground usually rises through the building wall which is similar to a sponge soaking up the water around it. This can occur due to various factors such as the complete absence of a damp proofing course which is mainly the fact in older buildings or the failure in properly installing a quality damp proofing course.
Penetrating Damp – this type of damp usually occurs when the water enters a building due to poor construction and faulty equipment as well as aging of buildings.
Condensation – The main cause for this condition is basically the lack of adequate ventilation in most of the modern buildings that are coming up. Condensation can be controlled with proper ventilation systems that can reduce the humidity levels of the interiors. You can also increase the heating levels, reduce moisture sources and improve the levels of insulation of all the walls.
